The 17th International Workshop on the Physics of Compressible Turbulent Mixing will be held in Atlanta, USA from July 18, – July 22 2022. Conference sessions will be hosted at the Callaway Manufacturing Research Center Building, and will be kicked off with a welcome reception on Sunday, July 17, 2022. The workshop will follow a hybrid format, with most attendees participating in-person, while those who are unable to travel due to the Covid pandemic can attend online.
This workshop has been held approximately biennially since 1988, and brings together researchers from universities and research laboratories around the world to discuss the state-of-the-art in theory, modelling, experiment and simulation of compressible and variable-density turbulent mixing induced by hydrodynamic instabilities in multi-material hydrodynamic flows. The workshop will include invited lectures, oral and poster presentations, together with informal round table discussion sessions.
Topics of interest include both fundamental and applied studies
– Rayleigh-Taylor, Richtmyer-Meshkov and Kelvin-Helmholtz instabilities
– Compressible, high-speed, and variable-density mixing and turbulence
– Entrainment and mixing in sheared interface flows
– Hydrodynamics of High-Energy Density Physics
– Multiphase Flows
– Applications including Inertial Confinement Fusion (ICF), High-Energy Density physics, Astrophysics, Scramjets, Material Science, and Combustion
– Laser-Plasma Interaction
– Complex materials (ejecta, porosity EOS)
– Experimental, numerical and theoretical studies involving the above topics
Multiple special events are planned including networking events for students and post-doctoral research associates, and a dinner banquet.
